COMPARATION DEGREE


A.Positive (To compare two things that are equal).


Using:    As....as
    The same as
    Different from
    Like
The same....as
   
Note:

    As.....as, The same as, Different from, Like, The same....as
is placed after to be (am/is/are/was/were) *For Regular Adjective,or after the verb*For regular Adverb

Example:
1.    Tina is as tall as Ani
2.    This exercise is as easy as the last one
3.    Andi works as hard as his brother
4.    You speak as quickly as he

    Different from *Different from mean “not equal “(the negative form for Possitive)

Example:
1.    This book is different from that one
2.    This radio is different from that one
3.    John’s coat is different from Paul’s

    Like *The word like mean “almost the same or similiar”

Example:
1.    John’s coat is like Paul’s
2.    John’s new car looks like Paul

    The same....as *is used  with noun and as.....as *is used with adjective

Example:
1.    The pencil is the same length as the other one
This pencil is as long as the other one


2.    This street is the same width as the other one
The street is as wide as the other one

3.    The store is the same distance as the other one
This store is as far as the other one

4.    This student is the same height as the other one
This student is as tall as the other one

    As....as also used with Expression of quantity(much,many,litlle,few)and expression of
quantity followed by nouns

Example:
1.    Bob bought as many books as George
(Bob  bought as many as  George)

2.    Bob had as much coffee as George
(Bob had as much as George)
(Bob had as many cups as of coffee as George)



B.Comparative(To compare two thing that are not equal)


Using:    -er than(for one syllable adjective)
    more......than (for two syllable adjective)

Note:
    -er than or more than is placed after the to be(am/is/are/was/were) *For Regular Adjective,or after the verb*For Regular Adverb.

Example:
1.    He is older than I am
2.    That brown chair is more comfortable than this one
3.    She speaks English more fluently than he

    -er than is used for 1 syllable

Tall        Taller            Nice         Nicer
Fast         Faster            Soon        Sooner
Quick        Quicker        Clear        Clearer

Example:
1.    He is taller than I am
2.    She runs faster than I do

    With Adjective that end in-y

Busy        Busier        Early        Earlier
Easy        Easier        Lazy        Lazier
Happy        Happier    Busier        Busier

Example:
1.    He cames ealier than I did
2.    They are lazier than me

    more......than is used for 2 syllables

Careful        More Careful        Often            More Often
Beautiful        More Beautiful    Necessary        More Necessary
Expensive        More Expensive    Important        More Important

Example:
1.    This goods are more important than other one
2.    The golden ring is more expensive than the red one.
3.    They study more often than us 

    adverb that have the adverb suffix-ly

Carefully        More Carefully    Rapidly        More Rapidly
Clearly        More Clearly        Quickly        More Quickly
Rapidly        More Rapidly

Example:
1.    They wrote more carefully than I did
2.    He speaks English more clearly than I do
3.    She answers the question more quickly than them

    The following iregular form

Good        Better        Badly        Worse
Well        Better         Far        Farther
Bad        Worse

Example:
He atitude is better than they
1.    She goes farther than Her uncle
2.    Their score is worst than me

    We can also use more witout following noun:

Example:
Alice has a lot of apple
1.    Mary has more than Alice

    Less is the opposite of more , Use Fewer for Count Noun

Example:
1.    George is less careful than John and Paul
2.    George write less carefully than Paul
3.    Paul has less time than John
4.    John has fewer books than George


    More.....Than is used also with noun

Example:
1.    Mary has more books than Alice
2.    Jimmy has more money than Paul



C.Superlative(To compare one thing with two or more other thing)


Using:    The.....-est(for one syllable adjective)
    The most(for two syllable adjective)


Note:

    The....-est or the most than is placed after the to be(am/is/are/was/were) *For Regular Adjective,or after the verb*For Regular Adverb.

Example:
1.    Yesterday was The hottest day of the year
2.    That was The Most boring film I’ve ever seen
3.    Tina dressed The Most beautifully of all the guests in the party
   
The suffix –est is used with the same words that –er is used with

    The –est is used for 1 syllable:

Tall        Taller        The Tallest
Fast         Faster        The fastest
Nice         Nicer        The Nicest
Quick        Quicker    The Quickest

Example:
1.    He is The tallest guy
2.    She runs The fastest among her friend

    With adjectives that end in-y

Easy        Easier        The Easiest
Happy        Happier    The Happiest
Lazy        Lazier        The Laziest
Early        Earlier        The Earliest



Example:
1.    He is The Happiest man
2.    They are The Laziest person

    The most is used for 2 sllyables

Careful        More Careful        The Most Careful   
Beautiful        More Beautiful    The Most Beautiful
Expensive        More Expensive    The Most Expensive
Often        More Often        The Most Often

Example:
1.    The golden ring is The Most Expensive in the world.
2.    She study English The Most Often in my class
